So Poppular

Hey all!!  Welcome to flower day for the 31 Day Challenge!!

I've been wanting to do poppies on my nails for sometime now and I'm excited to share what I did.  The only problem with this mani, is that it started peeling the very next day - definitely not long lasting!!  I wonder if my base coat loses it's "umpf" once you reach the bottom and it thickens up...hmmmm.

And for poops and giggles, here's Revlon - Popular, I have Whimsical and didn't really like it, so thought I would try this one - meh, it's okay....  I want the Revlon with black glitter but can not find it anywhere!!!

Revlon Popular Swatch

For my Flower Mani, I used:

Poppies:  Essie - Russian Roulette
I used acrylic paint for the black stamens.

Skittles, Take 2

Hiya!!  Lately I've been so consumed with challenges, I haven't really had to think of what to put on my nails - which has been fabulous to be honest.  Last week, I had done most of my mani's on the weekend and had them all scheduled to go - I change my polish daily, usually because it's chipped or I can tell it will chip, so I had to come up with ideas to keep my nails pretty during the week.

I had originally thought skittles mani's were brightly colored nails, in varying colors on each nails - I think these still qualify as skittle mani's - but skittle mani's also refer to nails with different designs on each nail, in any colors.  I wish I could find the mani that inspired this again, but I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it - so frustrating!  Anyhoodle, here's my second skittles mani, hope you enjoy!!

Light Pink:  Wet n Wild - Tickled Pink
Darker Pink:  Nyx - Salsa
White:  NYC - French White Tip
Flower Petals:  China Glaze - Four Leaf Clover
Glitter:  Wet n Wild - I ripped off the name sticker - oopie...

For the black and gray skittle mani, I used:
Base Coat:  Orly Bonder
Black:  Essie - Licorice
White:  NYC - White French Tip
Gray:  Sally Hansen - Wet Cement
Silver:  Sally Hansen - Celeb City
Glitter:  Revlon - Stunning

They Sure Don't Make 'em Like They Used To....

Hello!!  Welcome to Day 6 of the Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - They sure don't make 'em like they used!  A mani inspired by a classic toy or game.

I love board games and didn't realize I could have done a board game theme for this mani - darn!!  Shameless plug alert - have you seen my geeky Munchkin mani??  Click here!!  Oh well, I'm pretty happy with what I came up with.  This idea immediately popped into my head when I read what this day would have to include - the Fisher Price Chatter Telephone!!  The Chatter Telephone was introduced by Fisher Price in 1962 as the "Talk Back Phone."  It is a pull toy for young children that makes a chattering sound when you pull it.  It has eyes that move up and down and a rotary dial that rings a bell.  The original phone was made of wood with a plastic receiver and cord, in 2000 they changed this to one with push-button numbers with lights to modernize it.  People didn't like this modern version and complained to Fisher Price, who then changed it back to the rotary dial.  The Chatter Telephone was Fisher Price's best selling product and is cited as saving Fisher Price in the 90's after a failed attempt to market toys for older children.  Note:  I've paraphrase this fro wikipedia.

I remember having this toy as a child and likely most of you have as well.  I think my sister might have inherited it, but I definitely enjoyed it!!  Warning, picture heavy, it was interesting trying to capture these how I wanted to!!

Zebralicious

Hiya folks!!  Does anyone else miss Jerseylicious?!?  Because I do, last year it was airing 3 episodes per weekend and I got all caught up, now I have to wait for the new season to start. And of course this being Canada, we'll get it like 10 years later!!

Those of you who follow me on instagram, may  have heard about my massive haul at Sally's this weekend!  They were having a buy one get one free for Finger Paints, so I got four and then they had a clearance table that was already marked down and an additional 50% off, so I got four more polishes - major score!!  That was Friday, and there's no way I was going to pass on the deal so made the hubby drive an hour out of town to hit up the next town's Sally's.  I bought four more Finger Paints, a neon pink and white French nail kit and cuticle clippers - they didn't have any more polishes on the discount table, but it was worth the drive.  I ended up noticing that they over charged me once we drove away, so I made the hubby drive back for my $6.50 - he wasn't impressed, but it was worth it - that's a whole other bottle of polish or two if you're a cheapanista like me!!  We ended up having a fun time driving around the town, with me singing Disney songs and songs from musicals, while the hubby shouted requests - lol!

Here they are without the black homemade striping tape, I think I like them better without, you can tell it's zebra....

Main Color:  Finger Paints - Tiffany Imposter (this is one of my new Finger Paints!!)
White:  Finger Paints - Paper Mache
Black:  Wet n Wild - Black Creme
I used Salon Express stamp for the zebra print - perfect for getting this small spot because the stamps are so small, there is no way it would fit on my nail.

We Can Do It!

Hiya!!  welcome to Day 5 of the Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - "We Can Do It!"  Our task for day 5 was to come up with a mani that honors an influential woman in history.

The woman I would like to honor, isn't famous, but has influenced me in my life for as long as I can remember.  She is amazingly resilient and strong has always supported me in everything that I do.  She has loved me unconditionally and is always there for me, no matter what.  She is my aunt, my godmother, my friend.  I love her with my whole heart and hope that she knows how much she means to me.  Her love and support has shaped who I am today and I hope that I can show the same courage and strength that she shows in the face of all that life has thrown her way.  I love you loads Auntie!! xoxox

Stripper Pole

Hello lovelies!!  Welcome to my 70th post!!  That's 70 days worth of mani's since June 15, 2012 - how exciting is that!!  What a whirlwind couple of months!!  The nail blogging community is full of so many friendly, creative and super talented artists - I'm continually amazed by everyone's kindness, support and genuine care!  Shoot, it's hard enough to find that in the "real" world, to find it online is crazy - and super wonderful!  I am so incredibly appreciative and thankful for all your support and kindness during my start into the nail blogger world!!  In honor of that and of you, I will be hosting a MASSIVE giveaway in early October!!  I will be posting sneak peek teasers of what I will be giving away starting Monday, so check back then to see what's up for grabs - it's going to be EPIC!!

Now that I've blabbered on, here's my mani for Stripes Day for the 31 Day Challenge.  Some of you may know that I am super anal and doing stripes for me is a little daunting.  I need them to be straight and even - I don't have striping tape yet (I ordered some this week :) and taping is so much work, I decided to freehand this one.  I need a little more practice with the freehand lines, the flaws in this make me cringe, but I know that's mostly my critical eye!!  Enjoy :)

Saran Train

Hiya!!  It feels very strange not to have a challenge post going up every day like I did for the last couple of weeks, now I actually have to think of some interesting mani's!!  Maybe I should make my own challenge....hmmmm.....

I've been reluctant to get on the saran wrap mani train, I wasn't really digging how it looked, it reminded me of those rag walls that were all the rage back in the day - not a fan.  I went to Wally World the other day and bought some new coral-y polish and once I had it on, it looked like it needed something more.  I tried some nail art in silver and it didn't really work, so decided to try the saran wrap method with some gold instead.  I couldn't find any saran wrap in my mess of a kitchen so used a plastic bag instead (which works just as well, if you ask me!!).  Some of you know I love when glitter, or any mani really, is mattified - I haven't seen any mattified saran wrap mani's so was excited to try it out!!  I don't know if I captured how pretty this turned out - I literally could not stop looking at my nails!!  What do you think??

Lights, Camera, Action!

Hiya!!  Day 4 of Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - lights, camera, action!  Nails inspired by a nostalgic movie, song or piece of literature.  Warning, this is going to be a long post - I ended up doing two looks for this day PLUS, it's Polka Dot Day for the 31 Day Challenge - so scroll down if you've got some time!!

My original idea was to do a mani inspired by the dress Cha Cha in Grease wore to the dance.  I LOVE that dress and I love that character even though she had such a small part.  My favorite scene is at the end of the dance with Danny, she's waving the trophy in the air and lifting up her skirt in time with her dance moves.  Grease is one of my all time favorite movies, I can watch it over and over and not get sick of it.  I even loved Grease II - the scene in the bomb shelter - LOVE!  To see what inspired this mani, click here or here.

Grease Cha Cha Dress Nail Art

On to look number two.  As you may know, I love doing nail art - it's so small and fiddly and I thrive on doing small fiddly things!  So, I was bummed that my original idea didn't have heavy nail art.  Another of my all time fave movies is Ferris Bueller's Day Off - Bueller?  Bueller?  Bueller?  My fave scene is when Cameron is lying in bed and sings "when Cameron was in Eygpt's land, let my Cameron go."

Ferris Bueller's Day Off Nail Art

Ferris Bueller's Day Off Nail Art
Pointer finger is Ferris' classic sweater vest, the middle finger was supposed to be Sloane's glasses she wears , but the pink is more like Ferris' sister, the ring finger is Cameron's shirt (I chose not to tempt Detroit Red Wings logo, too detailed!), the pinky is self-explanatory and the thumb is Ed Rooney's suit.

Did you come here for Polka Dot Day for the 31 Day Challenge?  I can't disappoint y'all, so here's the one shot I managed to get of my dotticure.  This was inspired by Diana over at  Nails By Diana  - she did the most fabulous mani for Day 7 of the 31 Day Challenge - Black and White - check it out here!!  This girl has the most AMAZING nails - I love the shape and if I could, I would pull this off NOW!  She's also super duper talented, so please give her some LOVE!!

Black Polka Dots on White

I used way too many polishes to list them all (I've been saying that a lot lately....), give me a shout, happy to track it down!!

As always, please show some love to the other lovelies doing the LDTTWC by clicking on the pictures below and don't forget about the lovely folks doing the 31 Day Challenge, scroll down to click on the links!! Check back Monday for Day 5 of the LDTTWC - We Can Do It!! and Saturday for stripes for the 31 Day Challenge!!

I Remember When....

Hiya everybody!!  Welcome to Day 3 of the Let's Do The Time Warp Challenge - I remember when.....inspired by a special event in history, either well-known or personal.  I chose EXPO 86'!!

When I first started thinking of doing this challenge and read what we had to do for this day, Expo 86' was the first thing that popped into my head - no need to think or research.  Expo 86' was a world's fair held in Vancouver, BC from May 2 to October 13, 1986.  The theme was Transportation and Communication:  World in Motion - World in Touch.  It featured pavilions from 54 nations and a bunch of corporations - I remember McDonald's and Scotties tissue...  I was 6 when the Expo started and 7 by the time it was over.  I remember going, whether we went once or more than once, I can't remember.  I remember the water park which was a huge UFO with an alien flying it.  I also remember an enormous play house thing that was like a jungle gym, with obstacles you could climb over and slides that went into a plastic ball pit.  There was also a bridge with statues that you could climb and pose on - they were life size human statues doing random things, riding bikes etc.  I think the main reason I remember these things is because there are pictures of me at them - but it was still a cool event that put Vancouver on the map and I was lucky enough to go!!

Expo 86 Nail Art

Expo 86' Nail Art

On my pointer finger, I've done the Expo Centre which is now Science World.  On my middle finger is the logo for Expo 86'.  On my ring finger is the space man mascot that was everywhere!  And on my pinky is what you saw when you came to the event, they were these huge structures that looked like a roller coaster, that weren't welcoming you to Expo 86'!!

I used a bunch of colors, if you want to know one, let me know!!

Makin' the Grade-ient!

Hiya Polish Peeps!!  Today is gradient day for the 31 Day Challenge....  I have to be honest, I suck at gradients.  I swear, I've tried every method and can't seem to "get" any of them.  I ended up doing this twice,  my first attempt was a MAJOR disasticure, I tried to make it better and ended up making it worse.  Up first, is the one I ended up liking....

Nude and Green Gradient Stamped Gold

Nude and Green Gradient Stamped Gold

Feast your eyes on these puppies....

Nude and Pink Gradient with Polka Dots

I should have left well enough alone and not added the polka dots, but then I decided to add more polka dots - total FAIL!

Nude and Pink Gradient with Polka Dots

Base Color:  Color Club - No Name
Gradient:  L'oreal - Club Prive
I used BM stamp for the gold and used Sally Hansen - Golden-I
Top Coat:  Seche Vite

For the disasticure, I used the same color club for the main color and dots and used Wet n Wild - Violet Creme for the gradient.
